Message from the President-Elect and Conference Chair

Eric Jeffcoat SCABSE President-Elect and Conference Chair

Greetings SCABSE Family,

It is an honor to serve as your President Elect and Conference Chair. Thank you for choosing to attend and participate in our Winter Conference. Your presence here is a testimony of your commitment to being a professional and desire to provide the best education for all children. From funding issues, teacher and administrator shortages, political unrest, and more, we are facing unprecedented times and barriers to providing a quality education. Now is the time for us to join together and continue to Build Bridges and Break Barriers. Together we can provide the best working environments for all educators and the best education for all students. By the end of our conference, my hope is that your passion, energy, and commitment will be renewed and strengthened. With your support, I’m confident that we will achieve our mission of ensuring a high-quality education for all children, particularly for African-American children, by establishing coalitions, providing high-quality professional learning opportunities and forums, facilitating the placement of African-American professionals, and influencing policy. Thank you for your continued support of SCABSE and I hope you enjoy the conference!

With a heart of gratitude and appreciation,

Eric L. Jeffcoat
President Elect and Conference Chair

Message from the Executive Director

Welcome to the 2023 Winter Conference of The South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators! The Executive Board and Conference Committee led by our President, Dr, Reggie Wicker and our President-Elect/ Conference Chair, Mr. Eric Jeffcoat have pulled together the ideas, thoughts, interests and needs of all those involved in educating our children to provide an exemplary weekend of professional development. We have also resumed our Youth Conference under the leadership of Mr. Kerry Abel and the Youth Conference Committee. And as an added feature we have continued the Leadership Academy for aspiring and advancing administrators chaired by Dr. Carolyn Anderson and Dr. J.R. Green. There is something for everyone!

Our theme this year is “Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers”. This theme reminds us that we must show our children how to do this by doing the same for ourselves. Whatever our role- leaders, teachers, parents, mentors, board members- we must find a way to cross the bridges or hurdles we face and bring others along. United as allies, bridges can be formed and barriers can be broken. This is one step in ensuring a quality education for our children.

Thank you for joining us as an attendee, a participant, sponsor, or vendor. There would be no conference without you!

With Sincere Gratitude,

Teresa L Pope, Ph.D.
Executive Director
